Emerson’s primary method for creating art, involves a process of creating a detailed pencil drawing, then adding colour, tone, backgrounds etc. in Photoshop.

As pictured here, Emerson puts a lot of his detail into the pencil drawing side of the image. It starts off as an idea, reference is gathered and the image is constructed lightly in pencil on A4 light card stock, at least 210 gsm. (copy paper is annoying, Emerson will always wear holes in it with the pencil) once the rough outline of the image is working, more detail and stronger lines will be worked into it and an eraser pen is used to clean away messy and unwanted linework. From there its a process of strengthening the linework and detail. The greatest care needs to be taken in the planning and laying out stages to ensure the elements of the drawing work and are well proportioned.
